KENDO KUWACHA

KENDO KUWACHA

$315.00

Kendo (sword way) is a traditional Japanese martial art practiced by both historic samurai and contemporary athletes. Through keiko (practice), kendoists seek to bring body and mind into balance. In Edo Japan, samurai schools taught choreographed kendo movements, known as kata, using shanai (bamboo swords) and kendogu (protective armor). The traditions of samurai kendo persist today – outdoor matches are held on the grounds of shrines and temples, where sacred space nurtures the practitioner’s character and strength. Inspired by the ribbed metal grilles used in fencing masks, Kendo is a structured yet spirited handweave with its own carefully composed rhythm.
