The o-yoroi armor of high-ranking samurai laced together plates and scales in horizontal rows of iron and leather. Samurai commissioned o-yoroi from artisans, who took months to make one suit and lacquered each scale in the colors and patterns of the warrior’s clan. Inspired by this ancient artisanal process, Oyo is woven from cotton in a graphic pattern of colored lozenges — a chain of threads symbolizing good fortune and inner strength.
