RIST

RIST

With boulder, rock and slab the chisel connects — collides — cutting, splinter-shards sparking all around. Marks are etched, branded into the surface. In Old Norse to carve — or rista — is to burrow meaning. Furrowing under, coursing over, knotwork roping, soon chainmail-ing its way across crag and groove. Bending light lifts the symbols, as if raising their inscriptions — airborne — from the scarred stone. And, out of the granite-dust plumes, runes emerge – Viking incantations woven solid.
