Illustrated sea monsters discovered on an old Japanese block print – their metallic inky skin still gleaming after decades – are recreated and joined by creatures of our own imagining, emerging together through a fathomless ocean. With gimlet eye and bladed fin, they surge towards the light – Neptune’s dark cohort. Tentacle. Claw. Razor. Jaw. Suddenly – hiss and crack! – they break the surface. Birds and stars sparkle-scatter. Half revealing, half concealing, in foaming waves they appear – glittering as of old – these briny, shiny mythmakers, and, under the inviting Moon, they cavort, they carnival, they dance!
